Himalayan Stupa
Buddhist Temple, Tso (Lake) Kar, Ladakh, India
Over fifteen thousand feet up in the Himalayas and many miles from the nearest village, this distinctive Buddhist stupa is set apart from the sunset lit mountain peak, and the surrounding barren environment.
This region is sparsely populated by pastoral nomads that survive in this inhospitable region using their well-honed knowledge of the environment. On horseback, their migratory lives are adapted to the growth of the grass and the seasonal impact on grazing lands.
Near Nepal the area has unspoiled glacial and snow melt fed lakes, with abundant resident and migratory and sometimes rare wildlife.
