Stupa View
Buddhist Temple, Leh, Ladakh, India
At an elevation of twelve thousand feet in the Himalayan mountains, this highly decorated Buddhist stupa sits on a hilltop above the pious town of Leh.
The curved rail, sunlit path, and sweeping clouds lead your eye to the jumbled and shadowed mountains in the distance, and lush village below.
The harsh Himalayan climate creates a lush green environment that is able to sustain nomads living at high elevations in summer and at lower elevations in winter.
Heading north from here, one would journey along the mighty Indus River in the valley between the Himalaya and the Hindu Kush mountains. Passing incredible mountain lakes and over very high passes that cut through glaciers, eventually one would reach Nepal and many more Buddhist stupas and temples.
